Nowadays, the demand for energy is constantly increasing, which at the same time leads to significant climate changes, entailing the necessity to search for innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. The solution to these challenges may be aluminium, which is a fully recyclable and generates ecological energy solutions, such as lighter, fuel-efficient vehicles, components for wind power plants and, perhaps above all, energy-efficient buildings.
For years, aluminium was associated only with commercial construction. It was perceived as a "cold" metal that is not suitable for use in the Polish climate in construction of residential buildings. However, the development of technology has debunked this myth, proving that aluminium is perfect for creating modern and energy-efficient windows and doors in our homes, which earn for themselves.
The most important feature of aluminium joinery is energy efficiency. The complex structure of profiles and the possibility of using various types of fillings guarantee the maintenance of appropriate thermal insulation coefficients and lower heat loss. This is particularly important for passive and zero-energy houses.
There is a rapidly growing number of houses in the urban landscape the designs of which provide for the use of large glazing ensuring greater inflow of light and opening the rooms to the outside environment. And this is where aluminium comes in! It combines two - seemingly contradictory - features: plasticity and stiffness. The first one allows for creating narrow profiles of non-standard shapes that makes the window slimmer, thus increasing the surface of the glass pane. On the other hand, the stiffness of aluminium allows the design of entire glazed structures without the necessity to use additional steel reinforcements inside the window.
„Aluminium provides us with much greater design possibilities, among others, due to the relatively low weight of aluminium joinery compared to wood and PVC, which makes using window sashes and door leaves made of aluminium easy.”
The superiority of aluminium over PVC and wood can also be seen in high resistance to adverse weather conditions. Aluminium window and door profiles are more resistant to the loss of their colour under the influence of solar radiation than those made of PVC. What is more, they do not require as frequent maintenance treatments as wood, which must be be painted every 2 years. This way, their energy-efficient parameters remain at the highest level for many years.
Aluminium windows and doors increase safety of the household members. In case of fire, they will not take the fire and will stop the fire from spreading. What’s more, the use of appropriate construction and anti-theft glass panes and fittings, they will stop intruders from breaking into the house.
The latest technology allows for designing aluminium window frames suitable for any architectural style. The use of appropriate paints and varnishes with a diverse structure makes the colour possibilities practically unlimited. Coatings imitating wood have now become trendy in the construction of single-family houses, which, reproducing a natural pattern, make the window look wooden, while maintaining lightness and durability.
